As the New Year begins, most people make resolutions -- lose weight, save money, get organized.  

WINONA -- It took firefighters more than six hours to extinguish a fire that destroyed Crossroads Small Engine in Winona Monday night.

Happy New Year! It is time for all of those good resolutions to exercise more and lose weight. YUCK! I like the idea of getting healthier and moving more. The word exercise sounds like so much work.

It was a shock to Walmart employees and the entire community to learn last Wednesday of the closing of the Winona store.

Now that central Mississippi has become downright arctic, all I can think about is something warm and inviting and served in a bowl.

The Carrollton/ North Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department recently held its annual Firemen’s Ball at the Carrollton Community House. Several local county officials and residents attended the banquet. All proceeds from the night went to help fund the fire department.

Saluting Our Vets

The North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery hosted this year’s Veterans Day Service for Montgomery County Saturday morning.  Cemetery director Mark Lawson led the service which also featured Janie Beth McRae singing the National Anthem, special music by Bennie Rigby, and a keynote address by Pastor Mark Williamson of Winona Baptist Church.

District CHAMPS!

The Winona High School earned the district championship Friday night after defeating East Webster 40-17 in Winona.  According to Head Coach Joey Tompkins, the Tigers have won only one district title in the last 15 years, back in 2008.  The Tigers will face the winner of Friday’s matchup between Lake and Newton on November 2 in the first round o
