WINONA – A traffic stop led to a Winona man being arrested for felony drug charges last week.
Former Green Beret Paul Henderson received a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.
Traveling to Vietnam in 1964, Henderson returned to the United States and remembers being met by protesters at the airport. He said someone spit in his face, and he “climbed the fence.”
The J.Z. George basketball teams dropped a pair of Region 3-3A games to Yazoo County in action last week.
Yazoo County defeated the Jaguars 70-40 in the boys game.
The Panthers led 15-8 after the first quarter. Yazoo County then outpointed J.Z. George 20-6 in the second period and led 35-14 at the half.
KILMICHAEL -- The Montgomery County boys are atop the MHSAA Region 5-1A standings following a big win over McAdams Monday.
Decoreyon Small led four Hornets in double figures with 23 points in a 62-44 victory. Katicion Winfrey had 14 points, Deterrious Williams 13 and Aramus Sutton 10.
County rivals Winona and Montgomery County met at the Hornets' gym Saturday, and the boys and girls both went right down to the wire.
Montgomery County won the boys game 53-49 and Winona the girls game 37-35 on a buzzer beater.
On January 19, 2018, the Winona Rotary Club held its regular Friday noon meeting the Pizza Inn. Past District Governor Bob Graves presided. Eighteen members and three guests were present. Vince Saia introduced Frances Byers Bryant as his program.
The Winona Garden Club met for a December 12 outing to the Memphis Botanic Garden. 23 members carpooled to the Cherry Road location and enjoyed a guided tour of the thirty-one specialty gardens and building decorated for Christmas. Our guide was interesting and very accommodating.
