Towns hold parades

Winners from the Vaiden parade were: Floats (first to third place) Tuckerville M.B. Church, Campbell Hill M.B. Church, and Evergreen Masonic Lodge.  Below: Jack Teal waves to Santa who was the finale in the Carrollton-North Carrollton Christmas Parade.  At the end there were trophies awarded in the band, float and dance team categories.

Tartars tame Tigers

OXFORD – All that stood between Winona and an MHSAA Class 2A State Football Championship on Friday afternoon was Taylorsville freshman quarterback Ty Keyes. And he stood tall, guiding the Tartars to a 41-26 win on the turf at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Almost in scripted fashion for the second consecutive week, JaTyler Moore delivered another game-winning pass to Jay Lofton in the final seconds Friday, this time giving the Winona Tigers their first North State Championship, after a roller coaster emotional battle culminating in a 22-14 win over Calhoun City’s Wildcats.

Saluting Our Vets

The North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery hosted this year’s Veterans Day Service for Montgomery County Saturday morning.  Cemetery director Mark Lawson led the service which also featured Janie Beth McRae singing the National Anthem, special music by Bennie Rigby, and a keynote address by Pastor Mark Williamson of Winona Baptist Church.

Lady Jags ready for play

NORTH CARROLLTON – The J.Z. George Lady Jaguars just wrapped a summer of practice in preparation of the upcoming 2018 fast-pitch season.

During their first season, after being without a fast-pitch softball team for a number of years, the Lady Jaguars played teams from various schools, regardless of class.

Board opens annual bids

CARROLLTON -- At Tuesday’s meeting of the Carrollton Mayor and Board of Alderman, the board opened bids for the town’s garbage service and for grass mowing/ditch maintenance. Representatives from each company present spoke and also answered questions.
