Woods is a National Merit Finalist

Winona Secondary School senior, Joseph Woods, has advanced to Finalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Joseph was among 16,000 Semifinalists who were announced back in September and invited to compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million to be offered this spring.

My friend said he and three of his buddies went to Florida for a vacation. “I kept getting looks from people,” he said. “They moved away from me and said, ‘Man, you are big!’  They were scared of me.”

Wading Zilpher Creek

In the back roads in and around the Hesterville and Carmack communities runs a little creek, really just a little stream called Zilpher Creek.  All the trees and brambles have grown up on each side as far as the  little bit of water moves over the rocks covered in green moss and the sticks and skeletons of long-dead small wood animals. 

Man facing drug charge

WINONA – A traffic stop led to a Winona man being arrested for felony drug charges last week.

According to Winona Police Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, Michael Anthony Forrest, 43, of Winona was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.
