KILMICHAEL -- The Montgomery County Hornets, the last basketball team standing in area hoops, are the last to go down in the 1A playoffs.

At the 1A South State Tournament last week, the Hornets fell into the hands of Salem 75-70, in what head coach Frank Miller called a great ball game. The tournament was played at Stringer in Jasper County.

"This was one of the best games of the year for us, I'm really proud of these guys," Miller said.

The Hornets, who were up 41-38 at halftime, finish the season 18-11. In the play-in game at Kilmichael last week, the Hornets knocked off Nanih Waiya 64-40.

In the Salem game, junior Akkevious Robinson exploded for 30 points, and Demarius Womack added 16 points. Desmond Turner finished with 15 points.

Womack and Henson was named to the All-District team, according to Miller. Robinson, Turner and Henson were all named to the All-District Tournament team.
