Championship ball has returned to Winona as the Dizzy Dean baseball and softball tournaments are expected to bring over 40 teams to the area. Mike Narmour, Winona Recreation Park Director, said he and crews are busy getting the finishing touches on the fields in preparations for the games.

“We’ve been extremely busy getting prepared,” Narmour said. “We’re looking at thousands of people in town for the tournaments.”

According to Narmour, three of the park’s fields will be used for the tournament.

Winona will be the host of three state tournaments, the first string of tournaments will begin on July 5.

In girls softball action, the south state 10-and-under girls will begin with the 11-year-old boys north state tournament starting on the same day.

Softball teams from Winona, Louisville, Grenada, Neshoba County, Mathiston, Starkville and Newton County will all be vying for a state title.

Eleven-year-old baseball teams vying for the championship will be all-stars from Winona.
