This weekend, horse enthusiasts throughout the county will celebrate Carroll County's historic anniversary by seeing the county on horseback.

The Carroll County Saddle Club will host their annual Mother's Day Trail Ride beginning on Friday, May 8th through May 9th at the Cedar Hill Outfitters.

According to Gale Myers, a Carroll County Saddle Club member, the trail ride will begin on the morning of May 9th with the ride and will return to the camp at noon. Following the ride, Saturday's activities will include a silent auction, raffles, and karaoke provided by Bobby Haddon.

The Cedar Hill Outfitters is located off Highway 17 South between Carrollton and Lexington. According to Myers the ride will begin at 9 a.m., and she expects fun throughout the event.

Myers said members of the Carroll County Development Association came to the saddle club with thoughts of the event commemorating the county's anniversary.

"The Carroll County Saddle Club is a historic non-profit organization," Myers said, "We've hosting this Mother's Day event for some time now."

Myers said the Mother's Day Trail Ride has been around for the past 10 years.

"We can't say enough about the CCDA who was instrumental in this year's event and Mr. Carl Johnson, who provided the marvelous land at Cedar Hills Outfitters. He is a wonderful person and the property is in good condition."

Although some rains have been expected over the weekend, Myers said the weather will be a factor and she hopes to get a break for the weekend.

"In the past we have had up to 100 riders," she said.

Wagons are welcomed to the event and the saddle club also asked that no glass containers or ATV's are present.

The ride, which is about a seven mile trail, brings horse lovers from as far as Memphis, according to Myers.

"The phone calls have been pouring in and we want these people to come back and join the fun with a stress free, relaxing ride."

The Carroll County Saddle Club consists of about 20 families. The club's president is Marshall Myers and Guy Richardson serves as the vice-president.
